Singer David Lee Roth has become a legend of rock 'n' roll, as the wild frontman for Van Halen and as a solo artist. Van Halen became a popular fixture on the club scene, featuring Roth's expressive, sometimes primal vocals. Roth wrote much of the lyrics for the group, which has been credited for changing the face of hard rock with their pop- and punk-influenced sound. When the band toured to support their first record, Roth proved to be quite the showman. Roth went on to make several more hit albums with Van Halen, but eventually parted ways with the group. He formed a solo band and released his debut solo LP, Eat Em' and Smile, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 and sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. alone. Their second album, Skyscraper, emerged at No. 6 on the Billboard album chart and sold 2 million copies in the U.S. Roth's third solo album, A Little Ain't Enough, achieved RIAA gold status shortly after its release. Throughout his time as a solo artist, Roth also trained and worked as an EMT, hosted a radio show and wrote a New York Times best seller, Crazy From the Heat. He also, through the Songs of Love Foundation, recorded a Song of Love"" for a nine-year-old girl who was battling leukemia. Later on, Roth was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Van Halen.
