In 2016, Ostrander started making music as Mondo Cozmo, and in January 2017, his track "Shine" peaked at number one on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart. His name is a mix of Cozmo, the name of his dog, and the title of the 1969 John Waters comedy "Mondo Trasho." On August 4, 2017, "Plastic Soul," his debut album, was made available.
At the Exit/In in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 12, 2017, Ostrander's debut headlining tour as Mondo Cozmo got underway. The tour finished on October 28, 2017, after nineteen performances.
