He took a recruitment to swim for the Yale Bulldogs swimming and diving team where he competed on the NCAA Division I varsity team in the 100 and 200 meter Breaststroke. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Yale University and went on to spend a year backpacking but was stopped short after suffering a burn injury.
