Jontavious Willis is an American country blues singer-songwriter, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist from Greensville, Georgia. While growing up, Willis began singing gospel music alongside his grandfather at his local Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. He gained a love for blues music after watching Muddy Waters perform the song “Hoochie Coochie Man”. From there, he began to learn how to play different styles of country blues music and began to learn to play different styles on the guitar such as fingerpicker, flatpicker, and slide player. Willis also learned how to play the five-string banjo and harmonica later in life. He earned his major in sociology and anthropology from Columbus State University before earning his big break with Taj Mahal invited him to perform on stage with him. This led to him earning spots at music festivals and he then self-released his debut album, “Blue Metamorphosis”. Shortly after, Willis partnered with Keb’ Mo’ to release the joint album, “TajMo” which won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Since then, Willis has released his second album, “Spectacular Class”, which earned him a nomination for a Grammy Award in Best Traditional Blues Album..
