Tony Succar is a Peruvian-American musician, composer, arranger and producer who was born in Lima, Peru and raised in Miami, Florida. He is known for performing a mixture of salsa, jazz, latin jazz and tropical music. Succar was born into a musically inclined family who encouraged him to develop musical interest. He started playing the Peruvian Cajon when he was 3 and went on to start playing the drums in his parent’s band when he was 13. Succar originally tried earning a soccer scholarship at Florida International University but when he wasn’t able to land one his father told him to apply for FIU’s School of Music when he was quickly accepted into. Succar went on to earn a B.A. in Jazz Performance and then also earned his master’s degree. After graduating from FIU, Succar became an artist-in-residence there being the youngest ever to hold this accomplishment.
