Norris was a previous three-time world champion in the light-middleweight division. During his amateur career, Norris won four Texas State Golden Gloves titles. Over the course of his professional career, Norris competed in a total of 56 fights, won 47 of them, won 31 by KO, and lost 9. Norris won the NABF light-middleweight title, the WBC light-middleweight title, and won the IBF and lineal light-middleweight title. Some of his most notable fights were against opponents Sugar Ray Leonard, Jorge Castro, Rene Jacquot, Jorge Vaca, John Mugabi, Donald Curry, Simon Brown, Paul Vaden, Vincet Pettway, and more. Since retiring, Norris has gone on to be elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
