Kim Ghattas is a Dutch-Lebanese journalist and author who has worked for the BBC and an author. Ghattas was born in raised in Beirut and was living there amidst the Lebanese civil war. Being in the middle of the chaos is what gave her the urge to be a journalist when Ghattas was a teenager. Ghattas went on to begin her career working as an intern at a local newspaper in Beirut called The Daily Star. Ghattas went on to start reporting for Dutch newspapers as well as the BBC and Financial Times. During this time, Ghattas reported from countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Saudi Arabia and while with BBC, she covered the war between Israel and Hezbollah, which earned her an Emmy for international news coverage. Ghattas shortly after, moved to Washington to work as BBC’s State Department correspondent. During this time she traveled with Secretary of States such as Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. This job led Ghattas to publish the book ‘The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American Power,’ which went on to be a New York Times best-seller. She has also released another book, ‘Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the Forty-Year Rivalry That Unraveled Culture, Religion, and Collective Memory in the Middle East.’ Ghattas currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American University of Beirut..
