Ben Jealous is an American civic leader and political who has previously served as the President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Jealous was born in Pacific Grove, California, and grew up in Monterey, California. Jealous has earned his B.A. in political science from Columbia University and went on to earn his M.S. in comparative social research from St Antony’s College, Oxford. While studying at Columbia, Jealous began working as an organizer for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Through his work with the NAACP, Jealous organized to keep three black colleges in Mississippi fully funded and maintain their work. He went on to work as a report for the Jackson Advocate and moved his way up to managing editor. From there, Jealous went back to finish his degree and became Executive Director of the National Newspaper Publishers Association and then went on to serve as director of the US Human Rights Program at Amnesty International. Jealous has also been President of the Rosenberg Foundation before going on to work for the NAACP. Most recently, Jealous has been selected as President of People for the American Way..
