E. Ethelbert Miller is an American professor, poet, and literary activist who is known for being the editor of Poet Lore magazine and host of the WPFW morning radio show, On the Margin. Miller was born in Bronx, New York, and is currently based out of Washington, D.C. He has earned his B.A. from Howard University and has gone on to publish 12 books on poetry and two memoirs. Some of his most popular poetry publications include “Where Are the Love Poems for Dictators,” “First Light: New and Selected Poems,” “Whispers, Secrets, and Promises,” and more. His writings have also been published in publications such as Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Sojourners, and Poet Lore. Miller has been the founder and director of the Ascension Poetry Reading Series and has also been director of Howard University’s African-American Resource Center. As a professor, Miller has taught classes at schools which include American University, George Mason University, Emory & Henry College, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and he has also been a core faculty member for the writing seminars at Bennington College.
