Jay Blakesberg is an American photographer and filmmaker from Elizabeth, New Jersey, who is currently based out of San Francisco, California. Blakesberg grew up in Clark, New Jersey, which is where he found his love for photography. He would often attend concerts where he began taking pictures of the concerts with his father’s camera. Later on, Blakesberg attended a Grateful Dead concert in Meadowlands which was the first show of their that he photographed. This led him to follow the Grateful Dead around and photograph each of their concerts. A few years later, Blakesberg began studying photography and filmmaking at Evergreen State College. From there, Blakesberg began working in San Francisco; first as the house photographer for The I-Beam, which is where he photographed bands which include Janes Addiction, The Pixies and Soundgarden. After about a year there, Blakesberg then began doing photograph assignments for the Rolling Stone and also began working for BAM Magazine. Over the course of his career, Blakesberg has gone on to work with artists and bands which include Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Tom Waits, Santana, Metallica, Tom Petty, and more.
