Their first release, an EP with their own name, was followed by two albums on a big label: Slip and Manic Compression. The music of Fugazi and Helmet, two bands that play post-hardcore and alternative metal, has been compared favorably to that of Quicksand. The band toured extensively in support of their releases, but they were unable to achieve the level of mainstream success that was anticipated by their labels. These external and personal stresses caused them to split up for the first time in 1995, and then again in 1999, after an unsuccessful attempt at reuniting for a year and a half. Quicksand first played together again for a one-off reunion show in June 2012, and ever since then, the band has been performing more live shows.
