Tamzene is an artist to treasure. She has the voice of an ancient soul and combines those flawless, traditional influences—a childhood spent listening up Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald—with a desire to express oneself. Her new EP, "Details," which she wrote while strolling by the harbor while listening to the waves lapping against the pier and the Firth stretching out in front of her, is by Cromarty, a small Scottish town. She began studying the violin and piano when she was eight years old and at 14 she picked up the guitar and started writing her own music. Her rare combination of Irish and Jamaican ancestry prompted an early immersion in Soul, Folk, R&B and Reggae. Bookers from Scotland's Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival discovered Tamzene busking on the streets of Inverness. She has been studying full time at Leeds College of Music for the past year, growing her live reputation at a variety of venues and festivals. After spending a considerable amount of time writing songs on her own, she recently began working with one of Scotland's top songwriters and producers, Joe McAlinden, at his studio in the rural Argyll region. As a result of their collaborative relationship, the young artist is establishing a bolder, more cohesive musical identity.
