The Lonesome Trio Booking Agency Profile

A weird and fortunate meeting took place twenty years ago on the gently undulating plains of northern Ohio. A shared appreciation for great whiskey and bluegrass brought together Ed Helms, Ian Riggs and Jacob Tilove while they were Oberlin College students. Music started to happen quickly. A distinct musical voice emerged as a result of the melodic yelling of the three musicians, Riggs on bass, Helms on guitar and Tilove on mandolin. Weedkiller, a loosely-knit group, was created when more friends soon joined in on various banjos and fiddles. For a few fantastic years, they performed all over Oberlin on back porches, in front yards, and at basement keg parties, but when college finished, Weedkiller also disbanded.
As fate would have it, Ed, Jake and Ian all found themselves in New York City, pursuing their different wacky interests in comedy, architectural history and jazz bass studies. Their relationship and musical connection survived despite the excitement and chaos of city life and their frequent, unofficial jam sessions kept everyone grounded. These unofficial meetings eventually evolved into songwriting sessions and maybe even a few unofficial recording sessions. The Lonesome Trio soon had requests to perform at friend's parties and weddings and before they knew it, they were a regular act at venues like the Parkside Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall and other sleazy hangouts for the old-time crowd. The Lonesome Trio's distinctive sound and voice can be categorized as rootsy, bluegrass-like, Americana or even slightly cowboy. A truer description, though, might be the strange synergy of three longtime friends who have shared years of life, love, sorrow and laughter and who are now working it all out via their unadulterated and unflinching acoustic music..
