Jamie Roberts has spent the last ten years honing his alias, Blawan, both in the studio and on the road and in the process, he's built a world inside techno that's uniquely his own. Roberts was raised in Barnsley, England and from a young age began to carve out his musical path as a drummer—a bygone instrument that shouldn't surprise anyone who is familiar with his works. His discography under the name Blawan does highlight a natural proficiency for rhythm, whether it be simple or jarringly synchronized or swinging somewhere in the between.
His collaborations with Pariah as Karenn and with Surgeon as Trade, as well as his use of the names Kilner and Bored Young Adults, have given him more room for exploration.
The labels Roberts has collaborated with are appropriately diverse, having released music on Hessle Audio, R&S, Clone's Basement Series, Hinge Finger and Black Sun as Blawan, as well as The Trilogy Tapes and Avian under his other solo aliases. His releases have ranged from rippling jet-black simplicity to rapturous two-step vocal cuts and prodigy grooving techno.
For his last five releases as Blawan, Roberts has used his own label, TERNESC. After relocating to Berlin, Roberts' analogue-driven studio production and commanding live performances have taken him in fascinating new areas while yet allowing him to maintain masterful control of more conventional dance floor settings when at the turntables..
