Book Mr. Lif for your next corporate event, function, or private party.
Jeffrey Haynes, better known as Mr. Lif, is an American rapper known for his politically charged lyrics. After growing up in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston and attending Noble and Greenough School and Colgate University, he dropped out to pursue his passion for music.

In the late 90s, Mr. Lif began releasing singles with a focus on political and social issues, setting him apart from the dominant party rap and gangsta rap styles of the time. His first single, "Elektro," was released in 1998 and caught the attention of labels Grand Royal and Definitive Jux.

Working closely with Definitive Jux label head El-P, Mr. Lif released a series of critically acclaimed singles and EPs, including "Enters the Colossus" in 2000. He won the Boston Music Award for Outstanding Rap/Hip Hop Act in both 2000 and 2001.

In 2002, Mr. Lif released a pair of concept releases, including the EP "Emergency Rations" and the full-length album "I Phantom," which follows his life from birth to apocalypse. He also collaborated with Edan and Akrobatik in the MC abduction scenario presented in the "Emergency Rations" EP.

Mr. Lif is also a member of the hip hop group The Perceptionists, along with long-time friends and collaborators Akrobatik and DJ Fakts One. The group released their album "Black Dialogue" on Definitive Jux in 2005.

In addition to his solo work and collaborations with The Perceptionists, Mr. Lif has also collaborated with artists like Otis Grove, Thievery Corporation, and Anomie Belle. He has released two studio albums on Definitive Jux and one on Bloodbot Tactical Enterprises, including "Mo' Mega," his follow-up to "I Phantom," which features productions from El-P and guest appearances from Murs, Aesop Rock, and Blueprint.

Throughout his career, Mr. Lif has been influenced by legendary MCs like Chuck D, KRS-One, and Rakim, and has become known for his socially conscious lyrics and dynamic performances..
