She is also a vocalist, producer, radio DJ and engineer with an unconventional take on a long-standing heritage. Her music is influenced by traditional Hindustani ragas and is expressed in a modern and trendy fashion. Her music is a distinctive recreation of the collision of her two opposing worlds. Arushi was raised in Delhi, where she was first exposed to Indian classical music as well as other local genres. Arushi later relocated to California to attend Stanford University to pursue a degree in computer science. While there, she learned about computer-generated noises and sound synthesis at the Centre for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA).
Using the skills and technology she learned as a synthesist and technologist in the Bay Area, she reimagines traditional North Indian ragas in her music. The Leaving Records label produced her most recent album, Under the Lilac Sky, which was chosen as the Guardian's Global Album of the Month.
