Angelica Garcia, who was raised in the San Gabriel Valley, east of Los Angeles, and has Salvadoran and Mexican ancestry, has been building a new family for herself in Richmond, Virginia, over the past several years. The news that Garcia has signed to Spacebomb Records and that her first two singles for the premier Richmond label, "Karma The Knife," a dancehall-meets-Wall of Sound hit, and "It Don't Hinder Me," an anthem honoring her roots that combines Wall of Sound pop and Southern rock, officially christen the bond. "It Don't Hinder Me" is released in conjunction with a brand-new music video directed by Spencer Ford that was shot in the El Monte, California, area around Garcia's family's house and includes images of the family as well as visits to well-known local establishments including Tyler Market and Tacos El Arco.
As Angélica comes to her most complete and distinct self-image, the neon-colored Latin punk of "Y Grito" gives way to the slow-building whirlwind of electronic pop that is the brilliant "El Que." These two songs present mirror pictures of the same challenging and even horrifying healing process, with Angélica calling in allies from an other dimension with the ferocity of an exorcism. Angélica's vocal performance actually caused so much emotional and spiritual strain that she was unable to sing for two days following the recording.
