Irish finger-picking guitarist and vocalist Muireann Bradley was raised in the hills above the Finn Valley, just outside the village of Ballybofey in County Donegal. Muireann mostly plays blues from the 1920s and 1930s in the styles of country, ragtime and Piedmont.
To mention a few, her influences include Robert Johnson, Elizabeth Cotten, Blind Blake, Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Memphis Minnie. She takes great pleasure in singing and interpreting the songs of these early blues greats, adding her own special touch to each one.
Muireann started playing at the age of nine after persuading her father to purchase her first guitar and give her lessons. She grew up surrounded by guitars and old blues music. She put a lot of effort into learning some traditional blues finger picking techniques. But as she grew older, she started devoting more of her time to her childhood passions of boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which she trained for and excelled in from an early age. She made the decision to begin uploading videos to You Tube, with her cover of Blind Blake's "Police Dog Blues" being the first. It attracted a lot of interest and has now garnered over 80,000 views. Josh Rosenthal of San Francisco's Tompkins Square Records immediately got in touch with her and recommended that she record an album.
To recreate the process as closely as possible to the original classic country blues musicians, all of the songs and instrumentals were recorded live in the studio in one or two takes. These tracks will eventually be released as the album "I kept these old blues," which will be accessible on all digital platforms, vinyl, CD and cassette.
