Comedian and television producer Byron Allen created the American television production firm Entertainment Studios and currently serves as its chairman and CEO. Allen's fascination with the entertainment industry started when he was a little boy and would go with his mother to the NBC studios in Burbank, where she worked as a publicist. Allen was free to wander the sound stages, slip onto the Tonight Show set, sit behind Johnny Carson's desk and pretend to be the host.
After witnessing Allen's stand-up routine, comedian Jimmie Walker offered the then 14-year-old to join his comedy writing team with up-and-coming comics Jay Leno and David Letterman.
The Real People team from NBC watched Allen make his network television debut and they were so impressed by his laid-back demeanor that they offered him the co-hosting gig the very following day.
Allen was learning the ins and outs of television production while simultaneously gaining experience as a television personality. From his dining room table, he personally called station owners, programming directors and advertisers, learning the business of advertising and syndication firsthand. With the debut of his first program, Entertainers with Byron Allen, a weekly one-hour series showcasing the most prominent figures in film and television, Mr. Allen made his entrance into television production. He formed Entertainment Studios in Los Angeles at this time.
The Weather Channel was purchased by Entertainment Studios from NBCUniversal, Bain Capital and Blackstone Inc. The Walt Disney Company had to sell the regional Fox Sports Networks as a condition of buying 21st Century Fox, so he joined forces with Sinclair Broadcast Group to form Diamond Sports Group, which was later renamed Bally Sports..
