Kelly grew up in Rockford, Illinois, where she was born. Gilles Bensimon, a French fashion photographer and former International Creative Director of ELLE magazine, had three wives total, including Killoren. The couple had two daughters together.
After attending Columbia University, Killoren Bensimon earned a BA in English literature. Next, she started contributing to Hamptons magazine.
She oversaw the "Most Wanted" and "In the Spirit of the Hamptons" fashion columns while she was employed there.
