He dropped out of high school and traveled around North America. K'NAAN performed at the United Nations' 50th anniversary concert in 1999, in Geneva, and used his platform to criticize the United Nations' handling of the 1990s Somali crisis. Singer Youssou N'Dour, impressed by the young MC's performance invited him on his 2001 album Building Bridges. Knaan later met the team that propelled Nelly Furtado to fame, which led to a record. In 2007 the live album On the Road appeared and then, the album Troubadour became K'NAAN's first for the major label A&M. Knaan is touring in support Troubadour. The album features the smash hit Wavin Flag, which was chosen as Coca-Colas anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
