An American singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist by the name of James Hamilton Leithauser. He recorded seven studio albums as the lead vocalist for the American indie rock band The Walkmen from 2000 to 2014. Leithauser and bassist and organist Peter Matthew Bauer were both a part of The Recoys before The Walkmen were created. Leithauser was reared in Washington, DC, where he was born, and has been a resident of New York City since the 1990s. In 2014, Leithauser started a solo career. His first studio album, "Black Hours," which was written and recorded with his Walkmen bandmate Paul Maroon, was released on June 3. On the studio album "I Had a Dream That You Were Mine" from 2016, Leithauser worked with multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, a former member of Vampire Weekend. Later that year, it was published to a great deal of critical acclaim. In 2020, he published his studio album, "The Loves of Your Life." Mary Bryan and Mark Leithauser, an artist and former curator at the National Gallery of Art, welcomed Leithauser into the world in Washington, D.C. Anna, his sister, is a fellow artist. Brad Leithauser, a poet and author, is his paternal uncle. Leithauser and future bandmate Paul Maroon were close friends while both were students at St. Albans School.
