Sowers was born in Hesston, Kansas and she started playing football when she was only 8 years old. She later graduated with a master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Central Missouri. During her time studying in college, Sowers started playing for the West Michigan Mayhem and the Kansas City Titans in the Women’s Football Alliance.
