The band was started by Hilts and Kenyon who previously played together in a grunge band. They went on to add more members to the band and went on to tour through Canada and Europe before releasing their self-released EP, “The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame”. A year later, The Dead South released their debut studio album, “Good Company”. Since then, they’ve released two more albums, “Illusion and Doubt” which peaked at number 5 on the US Bluegrass charts, and “Sugar & Joy”, which peaked at number 1 on the US Bluegrass charts.
