Shea was born in College Station, Texas, and he began his career playing for the Texans SC youth soccer organization which he won four consecutive state championships with. He also played with U.S. Soccer’s youth residency program and trained with Bolton Wanderers. Shea went professional straight out of high school and was drafted by FC Dallas in the MLS SuperDraft. During his time with FC Dallas, Shea graduated from the MLS Generation Adidas program and was named to the MLS Team of the Week three times. Shea went on to play for teams such as Stoke City, Barnsley on loan, Birmingham City on loan, Orlando City, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Atlanta United.
