Opal Tometi is an American writer, human rights activist, strategist, and community organizer who is best known for being the co-founder of Black Lives Matter. Through her work with Black Lives Matter, Tometi is known for working with the social media aspect of the movement. Tometi has also been former Executive Director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration. Tometi has earned her B.A. in history from the University of Arizona, has earned her M.A. in Communication and advocacy from Arizona State University, and earned an honorary doctor of science degree from Clarkson University.
