Villages is a folk group from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, that consists of members Matt Ellis, Travis Ellis, Jon Pearo, and Archie Rankin. The group originally formed the group Mardeen, a pop-rock band that was inspired by groups such as The Super Friendz, Thrush Hermit and Sloan. They began to grow local fame through Mardeen but after having a singalong with family in Cape Breton, the band then knew they had to perform music that sounded more like their hometown, which led them to form Villages. After reforming as Villages, the group released their debut song “Hymn After Hymn,” which led to them releasing their debut EP of the same name, which was produced by Joel Plaskett. Since then, Villages have gone on to release their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Thomas Stajcer. Some of the songs off of the debut album include “Awakening of Spring,” “Maggie of the Cove,” “Sarah’s Whistling Tune,” and “At Your Door.”.
