Brownstone found fame in the mid 90’s and have taken various hiatuses over the years. The group was originally formed by members Monica “Mimi” Doby, Charmayne Maxene “Maxee” Maxwell, and Nichole “Nicci” Gilbert. After forming, they were signed to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music and from there, released their debut studio album, “From the Bottom Up,” which peaked at number 4 on the US R&B charts and at 29 on the US Billboard 200 charts. Their debut album reached RIAA certified platinum as well as BPI certified silver. With the release of their debut album also came popular singles such as “If You Love Me,” which was an international hit that peaked at number 8 on the US Billboard 200 charts, and at 2 on the US R&B charts and it reached them RIAA certified gold, ARIA certified gold, and BPI certified silver.
