Grace was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and he began his career playing baseball as well as basketball in high school before going on to play college baseball at San Diego State University. From there, Grace was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and he spent almost the entirety of his professional career playing for the Cubs before spending two years playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks of the National League. Over the course of his professional career, Grace was a three-time All-Star selection, a World Series champion with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and a four-time Gold Glove Award winner. Grace finished his professional career with a .303 batting average, 2,445 hits, 173 home runs, and 1,146 runs batted in. Since retiring, Grace has been the hitting coach for the Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League and has also been the hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
