Gurung was raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, and he studied at St. Xavier’s School in Jawalakhel before going on to earn his bachelor’s degree in hotel management from the National Council of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition. He also worked as an apprentice with Cynthia Rowley and worked as a design director for Bill Blass. After 10 years in New York, Gurung released his own collection under his name during Fashion Week. He has designed clothes for Michelle Obama, Kate Middleton, and more. He has also established the non-profit program, Shikshya Foundation and has earned the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award..
