John Olerud, also known as Johnny O, is an American former professional baseball player who played as a first baseman in the MLB. Olerud was born in Seattle, Washington, and he began his career playing baseball in high school where he helped his school to a state high school baseball championship. From there, he went on to play college baseball for Washington State University where he was named Baseball America College Player of the Year, a Pac-10 North All-League designated hitter, won a Pac-10 North title, and later was signed to the Toronto Blue Jays in the MLB draft. From there, Olerud went straight into the MLB and didn’t play in the minors. During his time playing with the Blue Jays, Olerud helped them to win two World Series championships, was an All-Star and an AL batting champion. Olerud went on to play for teams such as New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Boston Red Sox. During his time with the Mariners, Oldrud was an All-Star for his second time in his career and was a three-time Gold Glove Award winner. Since retiring, Olerud has been inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame and has been named Pac-12 Player of the Century..
