Culberson was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, to an American mother and a Sierra Leonean father. She was adopted as an infant and moved to West Virginia where her adoptive father was a professor at West Virginia University. Culberson later on earned a theatre scholarship to West Virginia University and then went on to earn his masters from the American Conservatory Theater. She then discovered her father was a member of a Mende royal family and wrote a letter to her birth father. Her birth father explained to her that him and her birth mother weren’t ready for a child and adopted her. She then went to Bumpe where she was granted the title of Bumpenya. Culberson has also previously worked as an actor where she has been seen in television series which include “All of Us,” “Boston Legal,” “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and the film “American Dreamz.” As a dancer, Culberson has danced professionally with CONTRA-TIEMPO.
