Daniel M. Nakamura, better known as his stage name Dan the Automator, is an American record producer from San Francisco, California who performs hip-hop music under the name Dan the Automator. Nakamura was born in San Francisco, California, and he is also founder of the publishing company Sharkman Music and the record label 75 Ark. While growing up, Dan the Automator learned how to play the violin before finding his love for hip-hop while in high school. This led him to begin working as a DJ as a teenager and decided to focus on producing. He then went on to earn a degree from San Francisco State University. Dan the Automator released his debut EP, “Music to Be Murdered By” and then earned attention for his production work on Kool Keith’s album “Dr. Octagonecologyst.” A few years after that, Dan the Automator collaborated with Prince Paul to form the project, Handsome Boy Modeling School. He then went on to form Deltron 3030 with Kid Koala and Del the Funky Homosapien and has also been one-half of the duo Got a Girl. As a solo artist, Dan the Automator has released two studio albums; “A Much Better Tomorrow” and “Booksmart: Score by Dan the Automator.” As a producer, Dan has worked with artists and bands which include Gorillaz, Ben Lee, Galactic, Primal Scream, Little Barrie, Josh Haden, and more. He has also worked on soundtracks for films and television series which include “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Blade II,” “The Sopranos,” “Booksmart,” “Holidate” and “Dash and Lilly.”.
