Jerome Adams is an American anesthesiologist and former vice admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps who has most previously served as the 20th Surgeon General of the United States. Adams was born in Maryland and he went on to study at the University of Maryland Baltimore County before going on to earn his B.S. in biochemistry and his B.A. in biopsychology. He then went on to go to medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine and earned his Master of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Adams started his career in private practice at Ball Memorial Hospital before being named assistant professor of anesthesiology at Indiana University. From there, Adams was appointed as the Indiana state health commissioner and was appointed by Governor Mike Pence before being re-appointed by Eric Holcomb. Through his work, he oversaw the Public Health Protection and Laboratory Services, Health and Human Serves, Health Care Quality and Regulatory, and Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Commissions..
