Brian Leetch is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who played in the NHL for 18 seasons and has gone on to be inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame as he is considered one of the top defenseman in NHL history. Leetch was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, and was raised in Cheshire, Connecticut, where he began learning how to play hockey. While in high school, Leetch played both hockey and baseball and during his sophomore year, he earned All-State honors. He then went on to study at Boston College and while there, he played for the US Olympic team before making his NHL debut with the New York Rangers. Leetch spent a majority of his professional NHL career playing with the New York Rangers and did so for 17 seasons. He also played a season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and a season with the Boston Bruins. While playing internationally with the United States, Leetch played in the Canada Cup and the World Cup of Hockey. During his career with the Rangers, Leetch was a six-time MVP, won the Players’ Player Award four-times, won the Frank Boucher Award, the Crumb Bum Award, Good Guy Award, the Ceil Saidel Memorial Award twice, and the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award.
