Scott Hoying is an American singer-songwriter, arranger, pianist, producer, and musician, from Arlington, Texas, who rose to fame as the baritone of the a capella group, Pentatonix. Apart from his work with Pentatonix, Hoying has also been one-half of the duo Superfruit. Hoying met his musical partner in Pentatonix as well as Superfruit, Mitch Grassi, at a young age. The duo later met Kirstin Maldonado while studying in high school and the three began acting and singing on stage in theater. The trio began performing a cappella together after performing a cover of Lady Gaga’s single “Telephone” to try to win a competition. They then went on to compete in the series “The Sing-Off” and recruited in two more members, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola.
