Goodie Mob – an Atlanta-based hip-hop group -- made their debut in 1995 with the Gold-certified album “Soul Food” and it was highly critically acclaimed. This album has the distinction of popularizing the phrase “Dirty South”. The group consists of Big Gipp, Khujo, CeeLo Green, and T-Mo. Needless to say, the critically acclaimed album touched on a lot of social and political issues. In 1996, Goodie Mob was on the Red Hot Organization’s compilation CD called “America is Dying Slowly”. The album featured huge names like Fat Joe, Biz Markie, and Coolio. Goodie Mob gained a lot of popularity and released the second album “Still Standing” in 1998. Goodie Mob was eventually signed to LaFace Record’s parent label called Arista Records before released their third album. This one was notably very different than their last few releases. The album was the first to not include Cee-Lo and it was much less gritty and featured softer subject matters – like partying, rather than the usual message about racism, geo-politics, and gentrification. Every member was together in 2006 for the Goodie Mob performance at the Gnarls Barkley (Cee-Lo Green’s other venture) concert.
