Hovvdy is an indie pop du from Austin, Texas. They released their first single album “Stay Warm” back in 2016, which consisted of three songs: “Treat”, “Phase”, “Color”. They released their first full length album “Taster” in 2017. Hovvdy takes inspiration from lo-fi and slocore bands from the 1990s (i.e. Duster, Pavement, and Yo La Tengo). They chipped away at their sound to create something super coherent for the first time working with someone other than themselves. The band came together in 2014 wen drummers Will Taylor and Charlie Martin got together from their Texas homes and created a band with a name that’s very familiar to any Texan… “Howdy,” but stylized as “Hovvdy.” The first releases from this band caught the attention of indie rock label Double Double Whammy, who remastered their work and re-released it in 2017. They also teamed up with Lomelda who is also at their same label and covered each other’s songs for the EP “Covers”. They released their third album “Heavy Lifter” in 2019 and the album did very well and garnered a lot of positive attention.
