Jarreau Vandal was born in Maastricht and was raised in Amsterdam by a very musical family, surrounded by all kinds of cassette tapes of soul, funk, and jazz music. Growing up, he was inspired by artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Jamiroquai, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and others. He started playing the drums when he was very young and this helped him get a certain perspective on how music is made. His grandfather is a music producer who introduced him to different music production programs like Logic and showed him the ins and outs. At just 16, he started producing music and hasn’t stopped since then. He quickly made a name for himself as part of the Amsterdam nightclub scene. He was part of the scene that focused on the new electronics “Wavefiles” and became a resident DJ and promoter. During this time, he became acquainted with a lot of different artists and he was introduced to all kinds of new sounds, which helped him expand his own sound. After IAMNOBODI heard his tracks, Jarreau was introduced to Joe Kay who is one of the founders of the LA label Soulection. With them, he recorded his first EP “The Jarreau Vandal White Label”..
