They started talking about music instead since they were too inebriated to participate. They chose the name Hurts for their new band after realizing they had similar musical tastes. Hurts, an English synthpop duo that was founded in 2009, is led by Theo Hutchcraft on vocals. The synthesist's name is Adam Anderson. The band's first two albums, Happiness and Exile, both made their debuts in the top ten of the album charts in the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and Finland, respectively. Hurts blacked out their images on their social media accounts in May 2020 and uploaded links to a Telegram account where they published puzzles leading to the release of a lyric video for "Voices," the lead song off their upcoming fifth album. Hutchcraft claimed that "Voices" lyrics, which were influenced by "isolation, desperation, and psychosis," had become "oddly predictive" during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second song from the next album, "Suffer," was released on June 24 along with the announcement that it would be called Faith.
