Gobotron Booking Agency Profile

Book Gobotron for your next corporate event, function, or private party.
Charles Robert "Robot" McDowell, the principal guitarist and backing vocalist for Manchester Orchestra, performs as Gobotron as a solo side project. On Your Mark, Get Set... was published by Manchester Orchestra's own label Favorite Gentlemen Recordings on January 19, 2010. Robert McDowell made the decision to begin writing his own solo material in his parents' Atlanta, Georgia, home after returning from Manchester Orchestra's 2008 headline tour. He was eager to take a different path and produce music that was distinct from the music he had produced while working with the band.

McDowell made the decision to nickname his solo endeavor Gobotron. The nickname "Gobotron" was originally given to McDowell years ago as a pun on the name Robert. Robo, Robo Cop, Robotron, Robby Robot, Rorby, Gorby, Gorbatraz, and many other variations followed before finally graduating to Gobotron. After watching The Simpsons one night, he had a dream that served as the basis for the album's title.

Before Manchester Orchestra embarked on a second brief tour and began pre-production for their subsequent album, Mean Everything to Nothing, which was released to critical acclaim in 2009, McDowell composed, performed, and recorded an entire album's worth of material during the summer of 2008. McDowell has said that artists as diverse as Ben Kweller and Brian Wilson had an impact on the album's sound, which is primarily pop rock. Due to the Manchester Orchestra's schedule, he was unable to continue working on his own material, so he postponed the project until the summer of 2009, when it was ultimately mixed and mastered, a full year after being recorded.

On Your Mark, Get Set..., the debut album by Manchester Orchestra, was ultimately published on January 19, 2010, by Favorite Gentlemen Recordings.

In October 2010, Robert McDowell (as Gobotron) made his debut live performance while supporting the Bad Books..

CTI can give you the accurate Gobotron booking price once we submit your event details to their camp. "How much does it cost to book Gobotron for an event?" is a frequent question we get. The final Gobotron booking price is contingent on many variables and the booking fee we may show is based on a range derived from our past experience with what will Gobotron charge for an event. An example fee to book Gobotron is in the starting range of $2,500-$7,499. However, any recent popularity change would cause a price fluctuation well beyond this example. Also, their speaking fee might be different than the fee shown for the cost to perform or to just appear. Popularity, career stage, along with current demand will cause fluctuations in their speaking price as well. The final booking price may be more than what is shown, but you should at least have a budget within that range for them to consider an appearance, performance or speaking engagement.
CTI negotiates on behalf of professional event planners and talent buyers for paid appearances! We cannot give out direct contact information of the Gobotron agent or help distribute fan mail, personal messages, gifts, requests for free appearances, or donations of time. The Gobotron manager and agent will only work with us if we present them with funded offers for their client to work your event.
There is low probability to book Gobotron for a party with anything substantially less than the published booking cost price range. We will negotiate with the Gobotron agent on your behalf if your funding is in place. By not having funding ready then it will more difficult to book Gobotron, because they get many offers to work events that are at or above asking price. It is also important to consider the travel costs when researching the Gobotron booking fee, as additional expenses like this, as well as an entourage of staff and equipment, are not necessarily built-in to the booking fee range shown. If your budget does not factor that in, then there is no benefit for them to want to be hired. We do not personally speak for Gobotron, but in our experience in booking talent for over 25 years, this is generally the outcome of inadequate funding.
