In the science fiction action drama The Six Million Dollar Man, Majors played Colt Seavers. Majors was born in the Detroit enclave of Wyandotte, Michigan. He played football and track in high school in Middlesboro. He obtained a scholarship at Indiana University after graduating in 1957, where he participated in sports once more. In 1959, Majors transferred to Richmond, Kentucky's Eastern Kentucky University. The next year, he played in his first football game, but he hurt his back badly and couldn't move for two weeks. This ended his college sports career. After his injuries, he turned his attention to acting. He did plays at the Pioneer Playhouse in Danville, Kentucky. Majors earned a history and physical education degree from Eastern Kentucky in 1962. He wanted to coach football. He was given the opportunity to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals football team following college. Instead, he relocated to Los Angeles where he worked as the recreation director for North Hollywood Park at the Los Angeles Park and Recreation Department.
