American Seimone Delicia Augustus, a former professional basketball player, is now an assistant coach for the U.S. national team, Dynamo Kursk, and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). First overall in the WNBA Draft in 2006, she signed with the Sparks after leaving the Minnesota Lynx. Augustus is one of the most well-known players in the WNBA. She has been an All-Star eight times, and in 2011 she helped the Lynx win their first of four WNBA titles and was named MVP. Augustus appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated for Women before entering her first year of high school, with the question, "Is She the Next Michael Jordan" WBCA All-American Augustus participated in sports for Capitol High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She took part in the 2002 WBCA High School All-America Game, scoring 14 points total and winning MVP honors. The two-time All-American won the Wade Trophy, Wooden Award, and Naismith College Player of the Year awards in 2005 and 2006 while helping the LSU Lady Tigers to three consecutive Final Four trips during her undergraduate tenure with the team. However, the Lady Tigers were never able to make it past the semifinals. Throughout her collegiate career, she averaged 19.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. In her senior year, she won the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for being the best senior women's basketball player in the whole country. In 2006, Augustus received his diploma from Louisiana State University. On January 9, 2010, LSU took away her number from her uniform.
