Her first husband, Manuel Bribiesca Godoy, was a veterinarian, and together they owned and operated a veterinary wholesale supply business in Celaya, Guanajuato. This was her first marriage. They brought into the world Manuel, Jorge Alberto, and Fernando as their offspring. They divorced in 2000 after filing for separation in 1998. In September 2001, Sahagn established the Vamos México (Let's Go Mexico) foundation, which distributes funding to support marginalized people in the country as well as other groups such as the Legion of Christ. Sahagn was elected president of Mexico in December 2006. The beginning of Vamos México was marked by a concert given by Elton John in Chapultepec Castle. This event drew criticism for the inappropriate use of a national monument for a private occasion..
