Brian Mitchell was one of seven kids reared by devoted parents in Plaquemine, Louisiana, long before he won the Super Bowl. While a student at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where he set the NCAA record for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback, Brian came to understand the importance of both education and athletics.
Brian was acclaimed for his capacity to inspire and drive his friends even back in those early glory days. His athletic prowess and hard commitment propelled him all the way to the NFL, where he made his debut as a running back and return specialist for the Washington Redskins. Brian broke NFL records for punt return yards and punt return touchdowns in his second season with the Redskins, helping the team to victory in Super Bowl XXVI.
Despite his record-breaking efforts, Brian has always remained upbeat and friendly, which enables him to motivate and engage with others. When it was time for Brian to retire from the NFL, he resolved to express his thanks for the numerous blessings he had received. He had witnessed many careers end when players let their egos take precedence over the game. He frequently makes appearances at business gatherings, charitable events and other occasions to promote giving back to the neighborhood. He also advises new athletes, giving guidance to both amateur and professional players on how to successfully leave athletics and have a fulfilling life after competition.
Currently, Brian co-hosts a number of NBC Sports Washington programs, such as Redskins 100, Countdown to Redskins Training Camp and Training Camp Daily. On game days, Brian also co-hosts Redskins Kickoff Live and Post Game Live. He also serves as the anchor of The Brian Mitchell Show on Team 980, an affiliate of Urban One.
