For creating, recording, and producing all of her music in her London bedroom studio, Laurel won praise from critics. When Laurel shared a demo of her song "Next time" in 2013, music bloggers started to take notice. The same year, Laurel made "Fire Breather" available on her SoundCloud as her debut single. "Life Worth Living," the lead single from Laurel's debut album that would be released three years later, was released in March 2016. It contrasted with her earlier work in that it had a strong indie rock influence and prominent electric guitar. She then released a second song titled "San Francisco" in May 2016. She was named the inaugural Artist of the Week on Apple Music because to her song. From her EP titled "Petrol Bloom," Laurel released "Scream Drive Faster" in August of 2020. With more of a retro synth-based sound on her tunes, frequently resembling that of the 1980s, this was a notable shift in her musical direction toward synthpop and synthwave.
