Although Moody Jones (not to be mistaken with the late blues musician of the same name) played his first show in Montreal when I was 17 years old, when he was a young man growing up in Saudi Arabia, he frequently performed at underground hip-hop parties. His first mix tape was a compilation of some of my favorite songs from Disney movies and albums. Moody Jones reminisces that one of the reasons he adored the Lion King cassette was because it was bright green. Even back then, he had a highly discerning eye for how things should appear. When I was a kid growing up in Saudi Arabia, the songs that were played on the radio were always based on the assumption that those were the music that people wanted to hear. Other than "Drive" by Incubus, he can't think of a single song that was playing on the radio that was worth listening to. Why do I have to listen to the same 12 songs over and over again when there are millions of other music being released each day Moody Jones is another somebody who cheers for the underdog. When an artist becomes famous and no longer needs his love and support, he stops listening to that artist's music and moves on to the next. He would rather put the money toward helping someone else who is in need of it. Always in his sets, he plays musicians that nobody else does, and if he finds out that someone else is playing one of the songs he chose, he stops playing it..
