Before they ever played their first gig, WSTR was signed to independent American label No Sleep Records thanks to their rapid rise in the UK pop-punk scene. The Liverpool-based band, which consists of vocalist Sammy Clifford, bassist Alex Tobijanski and guitarists Kieren Alder and Danny Swift, listed American bands like blink-182, Sum 41 and New Found Glory among their key influences. Along with their fellow punks Creeper, Moose Blood and Neck Deep, they began a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe after releasing their debut EP, SKRWD, on No Sleep.
The Wrexham band and tourmates Neck Deep were compared to WSTR, but leader Sammy Clifford denied the comparisons because of their closeness. The group released the lead track from their debut album. The song "Lonely Smiles" deals with a breakup lyrically and Clifford admitted that this theme served as the album's main focus. The album Red, Green or Inbetween was released.
