Joshua Mannie, better known by his stage name Barry Can't Swim, is an Edinburgh-born, London-based producer who has gained widespread recognition for his distinctive blend of expertly crafted electronic composition and jazz-inspired strings and chords.
The classically schooled artist developed a profound understanding and enthusiasm for jazz as a young child, learning to play the piano as a child and later working in several jazz clubs as a teenager. Joshua developed his musical abilities while attending university. He joined several bands, learned to play the guitar, bass and drums and later worked as an intern at Glasgow's SOMA Records, where he gained knowledge of the underground electronic sector.
Later, he relocated to London and fully engaged himself in the dance scene and electronic music, working on solo electronic projects and perfecting his skill until Barry Can't Swim was born.
Since then, Barrys's ascension has been inexorable. His sumptuous textures, blissed-out vocal samples and ecstatic orchestral elements have turned heads and made feet dance on the international club circuit. With the Bristol-based record label Shall Not Fade, Barry published his debut EP "Amor Fati," which was followed by the single "Everything Is Going To Be Alright." Shortly after, he became a member of the Ninja Tune family.
