Born Hot is the perfect example of how Farren perfectly captures the sensitive-goofball contradiction present in all of his work, notably his enthusiastic live performance, when he performs alone while playing to live-recorded backing tracks and presenting purposefully absurd images (his own face duplicated thousands of times, text that reads "ANOTHER PERFECT SET" at the end of each closing song). Similarly, Farren chose Born Hot's title and cover art with a completely sarcastic tone. It is a crude self-portrait of him lounging shirtless and sporting the look of a '70s pop Lothario.
On other occasions in Born Hot, Farren transitions from stern contemplation to more expansive thinking, delving into significant life events like his father-in-law's passing and his wife's reaction to the accompanying mourning. He imbues his songs with the unwavering sincerity he has adopted since dedicating himself to songwriting in every moment on the record. Farren, a native of Naples, started his first band before collaborating with musician/songwriter Jeff Rosenstock to establish the indie-rock combo Antarctigo Vespucci.
